I must respectfully disagree that Christianity is a religion based on love. It would be much more accurate to say it is a religion based on fear and violence.

If you are looking for something based on love and peace... try Jainism :)

ChristFollower: Where did you pick up this version at? It seems to be slightly different that the one that Robert Hill posted here: http://whywontgodhealamputees.com/forums/index.php/topic,16370.0.html?PHPSESSID=5fd9e321b009af88a7b601f318dec950

..... Also, there are about 3 pages worth of reasons why this doesn't prove anything on the above link.

While I would love to take credit for Ricky Gervais' atheism, I don't think it would be properly credited.

Did anyone else catch the end to the Golden Globes?

Ricky Gervais' last "thank you" was directed at God, for making him an atheist. :)

Zach F Wrote: Dear ChristyR, Awhile back you talked about a church for atheists and agnostics. Have you looked into a Unitarian Universalist church near you? Personal deities or the lack there of is of no consequence in the UU church. What is important is a belief in the inherent worth and dignity of every human being. Also important is the acceptance of the interconnectedness of all living things. Some people need a god for that, others do not.

Karen: I actually have a couple friends who members of a Unitarian Church. I personally have never attended a sermon. Although I am completely in love with their teachings of peace and acceptance, I have always had the impression that it was still very much religious- just non-denominational.

I am looking up local sermons now. I would most definitely be interested to attend a sermon for educational purposes, if nothing else.

Are you a member of a Unitarian church?

Hi Karen! Would you mind if I responded to the correct forum for this? I believe it's titled Church for the Un-Churched.

Thanks!

If a Creator is necessary to explain Man's existence, isn't a Creator necessary to explain God's existence?

I know you didn't say that everyone was going to go to purgatory... I am just trying to understand what you were saying.

Chances are that anyone who doesn't know the exact moment they are going die... will sin between the time they accept Jesus (or ask forgiveness) and their death. (I was using death row inmates as an example of someone who would becoming a Christian, or ask for forgiveness etc, right before death. )

In your opinion, do all of those people who sinned in between asking forgiveness/accepting jesus and death (probably the vast majority) go to purgatory?

Unless you are a death row inmate, and you accept God into your heart right before you are killed.... the chances of you sinning between when you accept jesus into your heart and the time you die are 1000 to 1. To err is human.... it's basically impossible for a person not to sin.

So, do your believe that everyone goes to purgatory? (with the possible exception of death row inmates...)

Thanks for helping me understand.

Hi Dancerman,

Your response is interesting. If purgatory is the place that you go to be cleansed of all sins before heaven, does that mean that Jesus' death was insufficient?

Jesus did suffer and die in order to cleans the whole world's sins, after all.  Why is purgatory needed on top of that?

Thanks!

Christy

What? That makes no sense.

Does that mean that an atheist isn't allowed to own The Odyssey or The Iliad? Or any other form of greek mythology, because he/she doesn't believe that those God's existed?

How is making an educated decision that something is false less valid than making the uneducated decision that something is false?
