Wikipedia defines Freethought as a philosophical viewpoint that holds that opinions should be formed on the basis of science, logic, and reason, and should not be influenced by authority, tradition, or other dogmas. The cognitive application of freethought is known as "freethinking," and practitioners of freethought are known as "freethinkers."
Did you know that God wants his followers to be freethinkers?
Oh, you say, but he wants us to accept him by faith. You’re right. But where does your faith come from? Hebrews 11:1 tells us that faith is the substance of things not seen, the evidence of things not seen. Where is the evidence upon which we base our faith?
The evidence is the book God inspired so mankind could believe that he is and that he is the creator. It is a book that is consistent throughout although it was written over a 1600 year span by over 40 different writers.
Check out the book, Can the Bible Really Prove it is True? from Amazon.com to gain a fuller understanding of evidence that it is inspired by God.
