Hi. I'm new to not only this site, but to the intertnet as well. I' like to reply to Sweet Southern Atheist, but this is the only way I could find to be able to type anything in! Of course you're not the only Atheist to celebrate so-called Christian holidays. I recall many fine X-mases when I was young, in the 60s and 70s. We always had a tree, I still have quite a few heirloom german hand-blown glass ornaments despite the time my father threw the whole decorated tree down the cellar stairs. Ouch. I think that X-mas music is some of the prettiest I've heard, though I used to have a problem singing about Jesus this or Mary, Mother of God that. I used to like the warm feeling of good will that seemed to perfume the frosty evenings, and shopping while listening to carolers and all that stuff. I may not have a tree every year now cuz of my chronic-pain, and I haven't had a 'real X-mas Feast (this past year it was a lean-cuisine dinner) for many years, but there are lots of places I could go to for that and share the merry X-mas comraderie. Easter was a blast too for me as a kid. Basket- full of goodies and a stuffed animal, usually. So get your kids some neat stuff, make some cherished family memories and don't let any religous beliefs you don't share get in the way! Merry X-mas and Happy Easter! Oh, don't forget Valentine's Day! Anyone recall those hand-made 'mailboxes' in grade school for all those corny Valentines or the ones you had to make yourself in art class?

I agree with everything you just said! I will definitely be celebrating Valentines day this year! (for myself and my daughter, who's handmade mailbox will surely be full!)
