Lost books of The Bible

I was doing some research of The Bible and came across a History Channel piece called "Banned from Bible" on youtube.  Apparently, it is well known that the current books of The Bible were chosen from many writings by counsels of men across centuries of time.  Which means that several books, some very popular in their respective time, were excluded.  How does this fact sit with Christians today?

I come across many different kinds of Christians that have their own way for interpretting and following The Bible.  Some are more spiritual, some are very literal, and some are more metaphorical about certian passages and the idea of the good book as a whole, both Genesis and Revelations come to mind.

So, Christians, in light of this fact among countless others regarding the history that eventually lead to the collective bible of today,  how can you follow its teachings? How do you follow this book?  My question is genuine.  I was raised with The Bible.  I would geniunely like to know your opinion on this.

Thanks

EXCELLENT STUDY, wish more christians would come to understand this about
what is these days BANDIED ABOUT as INERRANT, or GOD's absolute WORD.

IT IS A COMPILATION, at the very least, or best of books that stood to connect the OLDE
COVENANT with the NEW, much as the BOOK of MORMON purports to do, but
only Mormons accept as being true.
Same as the Quran is based on some of Muhammad was given to recite , to wit over time
the next gen, or proselyte soon added their two bits.

HENCE why there are so many CONTRADICTIONS.
But to the RELIGIOUSLY BLINDED, they don't see those truths.
And the weakest of the religious never dare ask or reject bad science-those contradictory
items.

LOOK all BOOKS are there for what purpose, really?
An aid to bring folks to a common concensus- of sorts, a play book so to speak like in
sports, the race car drivers manual wouldn't be used in say Basketball, but in both
cases they offer the player-driver the same basic MORES- moral standards, of conduct.

WHY did the church back when reject so many? Well my dear the answer is always the
simplest, Occams RAZOR.
ECONOMICS, one by which they can control the NEOPHYTES, the new recruits,.
There were some kept to help EXPLAIN the STORY of the evolution of FAITH in and of A SPECIFIC
GOD-BEING, and that beings involvement with us case studies by some of that BEINGS
expectations.

For all religions the same holds true, maybe more so for some and less for others
but basically it all is the same no matter which one joins.
RULES -EXPECTATIONS of CONDUCT, first towards a HIGHER AUTHOR-AUTHORITY
and then ones conduct to fellow beings.

And if you have studied any of them, you would find this to hold true.

But why keep so many of PAUL's LETTERS?
Well that my dear can be realized by what took place @ NICAEA 365 AD.
The outcome of that decision still lingers to this age, but since the REFORMATION,
and the advent of the PRINTING PRESS and subsequent revolutions where folks threw
off the YOKE of SLAVERY often imposed by fellow men, be they kings, earls, priests or
today elected governments, that decision has come to be undermined,
And now with the INTERNET,  that freedom of SHARING ones ENLIGHTENMENT
can only bring more folks to the TRUTH.

PAUL excemplified POWER of AUTHORITY, which sadly is what Jesus doesn't do
in what is recorded of Him , as He never actually wrote anything Himself.

POWER, equals, WEALTH and FAME and all the things that Jesus rejected when
the devil challenged Him to step away from GOD and be come His own deity.

EGO is the short answer, and for the many daft sheep, well they just walk like
tin soldiers are expected to march, and if they don't they are booted out.

there are no lost books of the Bible. there are none banned from it either. read what the late dr. metger had to say on this:

"You have to understand that the canon was not the result of a series of contests involving church politics. The canon is rather the seperation that came about because of the intuitive insights of Christian believers....When the pronouncement was made about the canon, it merely ratified what the general sensitivity of the church had already determined. You see, the canon is a list of authoritative books more than it is an authoritative list of books. These documents didn't derive their authority from being selected; each one was authoritative before anyone gathered them together.." (the case for Christ pg.69)

even if you compared the actual rejected books with the Biblical ones (and i have) you would see a difference between them and see that the Biblical ones were far superior to any other. the late Benjamin Warfield had this to say:

"If we compare the present state of the NT text with that of any other ancient writing, we must...declare it to be marvelously correct. Such has been the care with which the NT has been copied--a care that has doubtless grown out of true reverance for its holy words..." (ibid. pg. 70)

you can also read f.f. bruce's 'the NT documents: are they reliable?'

As I read the above replies I cannot help but notice that no one seems to address or acknowlede the obvious; that the creator seems to have lost all control of the messangers and the message. If the message was so perfect then why is there such debate and need for interpretation as happens in the religious communities. The conclusion is that the religions of Abraham worship a book and not a God. Of course none of them can agree on what book is the right one and All have exclusive rights to the truth.
