Should intelligent design be taught in schools? What about the separation between church and state?

The separation between church and state means the state cannot interfere with how churches run their business but it's a one-way "wall".  The church (comprised of individual Christians with the same rights as any other citizen) can indeed be involved with the state.

Intelligent design is the most logical explanation for the universe being here so of course it should be taught.  Now this is my opinion: evolution is a total waste and it should not even be bothered to be taught, but if someone wanted to take an elective in it, I would not be against it at all.

So apparently I give the evolutionists a lot more "benefit of the doubt" than they give me.  But isn't that the way it is today?  "Tolerance" is shouted from the rooftops - tolerance for everyone and everything except Christiand and Christianity.

What are you talking about, Christianity is completely tolerated.  The leaders and followers of the church have their hands in everything. From the educational system to censorship in various media formats, to most every public official repeating, "God Bless America" at the end of every speech.  There is no scientific basis in intelligent design, only religious belief.  How can we responsibly indoctrinate future generations with information that has no merit other than religious scripture?

To my understanding, the separation of church and state is the other way around.  Everyone, both individuals and organizations alike, are protected through the first amendment of the constitution to believe in any religion they wish and to express themselves however they wish as long as they stay within the confines of the law, basicially just don't impeach upon anyone else in any way.  The public school system is intended to be an institution to educate the youth and to prepare them in various subjects and skills/vocations for the world outside of school, whether it be additional eductation or straight to the workforce.  Families have every right to  take their kids to church whenever they like.  Lets keep religion and religiously founded beliefs out of our school systems.

A way to handle that would not be to totally shun the idea or tell kids that evolution is the only truth.  Rather, just present evolution in schools as it is, the proposed scientific theory of our current time.  Explain that like all sciences, it is safe to consider this take on this subject as, at best, incomplete and constantly evolving with more and more research in the field.  There is nothing wrong with presenting all proposed ideas on the subject, but teaching religious ideas in a public school is irresponsible.  What about the kids that aren't Christian?  We have no right to impose Christian ideals upon unsuspecting youth.  Because, lets face it, not all parents are involved enough day to day in what goes on at school to be able to put in their own two cents on the matter if they disagree.  Teaching any science that isn't founded upon scientific research is not science by its own defintion.
