What were some of the consequences of the Crusades?

Hi Christy,

Well, one of the consequences is people are convinced it was the work of Christians, when it was actually the work of Catholicism, as I recall. There is a difference.

Not saying there is no such thing as a Catholic Christian, but I believe the Catholics who are Christians are Christians more in spite of their beliefs rather than because of them. I don't mean to be unfair to them; it's their leadership that taught them wrongly instead of Biblically.

During crusades, if you were Christian, you were Catholic. there was no difference then. The birth of Protestants and Martin Luther's 99 thesis did not occur until the 16th Century. During the Crusades, the 10th, 11th, and 12th centuries, Catholicism and Christianity was one in the same.

this is just not so.

"During the Crusades, the 10th, 11th, and 12th centuries, Catholicism and Christianity was one in the same."

as is this. the crusades were projects of the pope but that does not mean every religious person was a roman catholic.

the results were the muslim and the arab hate christians, the west and the church. thousands of innocent people were murdered, including jews. we have many ruins of byzantine churches  built at supposed religious sites. they can't be verified because of lost documentation. to name a few.

Muslims hate Jews and Christians because Mohammed told them that they had to. Not because of the Crusades. The Crusades were an effort to reclaim lands which were Jewish and Christian from the muslim conquerors. Any place of worship Jewish, Christian, or other, could and would be destroyed at will by the muslims who saw (and still see) their mission as assuring that Islam is the only accepted faith or if others don't accept it, they must submit to the rule of muslims (dhimmitude).

Muslims don't hate Jews and Christians because that is what Mohammed taught. Like any other budding empire, they wanted to spread their influence over the world. This is something that all civilizations have in common. In the case of Muslims, which later became the Ottoman Empire, Safavid Empire, and Mughul Empire, those who stood in their way of expansion were the Jews and the Holy Roman Empire. When you try and spread your influence by force, animosity forms. France/England, Japan/China, North and South Korea. When the Muslims took Jerusalem, the Christians wanted to take it back, thus hundreds of years of fighting has fostered deep seeded hostilities between the cultures.

To add to that hatred are the religious beliefs. The Quran says the same thing about non-Muslims as the Bible says about non-Christians, and the Torah says about non-Jews: They must die horrible, horrible deaths. Usually by stoning, at the point of a sword or set on fire.
