I don't know what this is, and I certainly wouldn't pay $1200 for it.... But, I must say.... it looks cool.

How exactly is this considered a religious artifact though? Did Jesus have a spirit squad (no pun intended) with baton twirlers in it?

Someone, please enlighten me....

It's the staff of a bishop from the 1700's. Likely made of silver. Nice little piece of history

I find it amazing that when we find an "artifact" from the past we are so quick to assign it to people's belief systems and their culture at the time. When we know today that we'll create "stuff" out of boredom or as a stress-reliever sometimes.

I'm not saying that there were no true religious artifacts, but EVERYTHING we've found from the distant past couldn't be. The nature of humans haven't changed and some artifacts are just "stuff" people made blowing off steam.

We need to remember that they too, were creative.

read The Lost Treasures of the Bible by Fant & Reddish which will provide you with a list of true artifcats from the ancient world and related to christianity. there are also many websites, books, and articles which record all that has been found that could be called 'religious'.

the problem with the archaeological world is that to raise money, everything has to be a temple or cult idol when in reality they are not. secular archaeologists and even some religious ones paint a false picture of the past because they deal with limited discoveries and even less textual support.

but like evolutionists, and many of them are, they like to be the 'creator' of their own past {or someone else's) and fabricate what took place in ancient times. if you listen to them all you would think was that the ancients slepted, ate, worshiped worked and did  nothing else which is just NOT true.
