So I am wondering people's thoughts on the legendary city of Atlantis. It’s become a pretty common name in recent years due to things like the 2001 movie “Atlantis: The lost empire” and the opening of Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.

Plato was the first person to write of Atlantis. Atlas, son of Poseidon, was said to be the first king of Atlantis, as well as the Atlantic Ocean (which was named in his honor.)

According to the legend, Atlantis sunk into the ocean after a failed attempt to invade Athens.  Some people think that the Plato's story was based on the Thera eruption. Others believe it was original thought on Plato's part, and purely mythical.

What do you think? Is Atlantis a myth, or is it possible that it actually existed?
