Police raided the house of Charles L. Stewart in January after learning he had smuggled a large box full of Giant African Snails into Florida. Why would someone want to smuggle a large box of Giant African Snails into the U.S.? Well, for religious ceremonies, of course! Apparently Stewart practices the traditional African religion of Ifa Orisha, in which the snails are said to cure the medical illnesses of those who drink their juices. Unfortunately, it didn't actually work out as planned. The people who drank the snail juice actually got violently ill, lost and developed strange lumps in their stomachs. Belief is a crazy thing.
