Benevolence is not a big expense for Focus on the Family

In examining Focus on the Family’s Federal Tax Form 990 for 2007, it shows expenses of $144.9 million, of which only $4.9 million or 3.4 percent were for “Benevolence”.  In these days of mega churches and high profile ministries, the traditional church role of helping the poor seems to have been lost to the more lucrative “capitalization of faith” and its elaborate media campaign to increase membership and contributions.

Ah, but it's more than the typical democrat, I would think. A lot more than the democrats whose tax records I've seen made public.

YES FRANK that is often the true face of every church that thinks itself
as worthy of the TAX EXEMPTION, while like all capitalists they grow at the
expense of others but don't ever have to answer to anyone not government or
a donor, on whose ignorance they have built their kingdoms large
My local BAPTIST CHURCH had a .01 percent benevolence fund one year before
I was cast out, the largest portion kept going to PREACHERS ACCOUNTS and
then the many paltry PROGRAMS that soon fizzled .

That is why I find myself online, to get folks to THINK and not follow BLIND.
Todays religions have all become RACKETS.

Hi Pash,

I agree with that. The church spends too much money on ITSELF. It sure be concentrating on missions.

That is aunique way of saying
   THE CHURCH on itself,
WELL that is a truism but I tend to see the church more as an entity
of man today than of GOD.
Hence why we have so many DIVERGENT CHURCHES, in the
SHADOW of the CROSS, rather than just one in the LIGHT of Him who
was hung out thereon.
It tends to be the FREUDIAN id that makes most what they are
Question, and this relates to the many rather than the few

Hi Pash,

That's what I'm talking about. The organized church, comprised of saved and unsaved. It spends too much money on buildings and salaries.

More should go to missions and missionaries. The Great Commission is in Matthew 28.

Wonder: Are you a member of a Church? If so, do you contribute the recommended 10% of your salary?

Yes on both counts, and my financial needs have all been met, so it has been a privilege to be able to give.

So why not be Benevolent yourself? Why donate your money to an organization that only uses a small percentage of it's fund toward benevolence?

I think I did send them one check in my entire life.  That was some years back, when Dobson was still with them.   But I never did support them regularly - only once, for some particular need and I don't remember what it was at the time.

But you contribute to your church. You admitted a couple posts up that Churches spend too much money on themselves.

Wouldn't it be more productive to fund your own acts of kindness? Give 10% of your salary to a homeless shelter... or something else along those lines?
