This is a common argument that since you cannot prove whether God exists or not, you might as well believe just in case there is a God so that you go to heaven. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

Then it would be an empty belief. It would be capricious and self-serving at best. Belief will have to be based on evidence which is the basis of all human knowledge. If there is no evidence of something, what logical reason do you have for believing it? This does not prove nor disprove that certain something but wouldn't it be completely irrational to believe something despite the lack of evidence for it?
