The title is an
article
by Geoffrey Wheatcroft appearing in the October 23 issue of the Sydney Morning Herald about the resurgence of religion in politics, primarily in the USA. Religion is a factor in the US Presidential campaign, and McCain, Palin, Obama and Biden all have obediently invoked their religious beliefs at one time or another during their campaigns. Wheatcroft correctly points out that "religion may now be the largest gulf between Europe and the US".
Wheatcroft focuses on Sarah Palin's pastor, Ed Kalnins, and how he has shaped her views, and how he is now making statements referring to the impending Rapture as "the storm clouds are gathering". And this: "I'm just looking at the turmoil of the world, Iraq, other places - everywhere people are fighting against Christ." Wheatcroft suggests that "as one of his flock, Palin presumably believes this too. She believes Jesus told us to invade Iraq: she said so from the pulpit."
Are Sarah Palin's religious convictions what we want in the President of the USA?
